"There is increasing recognition of the need to rethink academic professional development, to shift it from industrial-era craft-based approaches to approaches more in tune with the complex, multi-faceted demands of contemporary higher education" (Golja and Schaverien 2005)
mediagogy have been engaged in research into the pedagogical issues that characterise the Higher Education context, with the goal of offering a range of Professional Development services to Higher Education institutions. mediagogy's approach is based on a commitment to effective, useful and engaging Professional Development that is designed to fully realise the potential and enhance the capabilities of all teaching staff. We believe that the most effective professional development is that undertaken by professionals in all fields - a lifelong commitment to continuous learning.
To maximise participation, all programs have an e.Learning component to enable the frequently scattered community of HE teachers, most of whom are employed on a casual/sessional basis, easy, convenient and equitable access to Professional Development.
All courses use innovative assessment techniques, and encourage the discussion of issues and topics in an open, safe and judgement-free environment. During the course, institutions will be regularly updated about the progress of their cohort, as well as being alerted to common issues that may be arising in their classrooms.
Continuous Professional Development of educators has been consistently linked with better student /learning outcomes and higher staff retention rates. The U.S. National Commission on Teaching and America's Future cites evidence that “investments in teachers' knowledge and skills net greater increases in students' achievement [in the United States] than other uses of an educational dollar” (cited in Villegas-Reimers 2003 )
mediagogy is committed to the developemnt of professional teachers, not just teaching professionals
